I recently had a conversation with my wife where she brought up how many different power cables for devices she had; Mobile Phone, Kindle, MP3 player, baby monitor, and other items which vie for a spot in one of the coveted power outlets in our home. She brought up how we are “connected” to so many things… but are we connected to what matters?
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 2:7
Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Lamentations 3:24
Let’s look at our mobile phone for a moment. They are brilliant devices that allow us to be ‘connected’ with anyone in the world. In some cases we can be connected at the push of a button. Yet in ‘dead zones’, it doesn’t matter how charged the battery is, they are useless. Unless they have a connection to a provider, they cannot fulfill the role for which they were created. They can be full of ‘life’ but absolutely useless.
John 15:1-4
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
Let’s take this a bit further on a tangent from the previous paragraph. Our mobile phones are great ways to keep in contact with people. With the advent of conference calling and texting, we can even communicate with multiple people all at once! This is an excellent way to communicate… but are we really ‘connecting’ to anyone? It was only a matter of a few weeks ago that my wife and I finally broke down and got text. We both recognized how ‘detached’ we are from people by simply texting. Texting aside, can we truly say we are connecting with someone, or even really communicating with someone if we are not with them in person?
I don’t know about you but it troubles me how often I find myself attempting to talk on the phone while doing all manner of other functions at the same time. News Flash, I’m a dude! I don’t multitask well! LOL! I know that if I am on the phone with someone and doing ANYTHING else, I am NOT connecting with the person on the other end of the phone.
John 15:5-8
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”
Here’s my point. We need to get connected to the only Source that will never cease to fill us. We need to be seeking the Source daily! Jesus is the only source of living water and our only hope for salvation. Seek Him. If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus or a local church body, contact me chris@ivedieddaily.com or any one of the others in I’ve Died Daily and we will help you get CONNECTED! Jesus is waiting on your call, and He is always with you and ready to listen. He loves you so much that death was a price worth paying FOR YOU.
Lamentations 3:25-26
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
Psalm 62:5
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I hope this message blessed you as much as it did me to write it.
God bless and keep the faith!
Chris
